Alleged Adultery: Kano Upper Shari’a Court Clears Suspended Jigawa Commissioner
By Abdullahi Yusuf
An Upper Shari’a Court sitting at Kofar Kudu in Kano State has cleared Auwal Danladi Sankara, the suspended Jigawa State Commissioner of Special Duties, of allegations of adultery with a married woman.
Nasiru Buba had filed a case against Sankara whom he accused of having an illicit affair with his wife, Tasleem Baba Nabegu.
The Presiding Judge, Ibrahim Sarki Yola, terminated the case due to lack of evidence, as reported by the AIG Zone I, Kano, and the State Attorney General.
In his ruling, Sarki Yola upheld that the decision to terminate the case followed a thorough examination by the AIG Zone I, Kano, and the Kano State Attorney General, who found no evidence to support the allegations of illicit affair between Sankara and Nabegu.
He added that the police report as well as the State Attorney General’s submission revealed that the allegations against the duo were not substantiated and proven, and therefore, terminated the case.
The judge relied on section 211 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and 364 sub 5 of ACJL 2019.
Nasir Buba was neither represented nor attended the court session.
“There is no need for me to hear a response from the complainant since my action to terminate this case is based on the report of the AIG investigation and the Kano State Attorney General tendered before the court,” Sarki Yola averred.
He accordingly cautioned Kano State Hisbah Board officials and other law enforcement agencies to be professional while discharging their Constitutional mandate.
He also urged them to avoid actions that tend to defame public character.
