Ambassador Waiya Bounces Back, As Court Bars CSO Leadership In Kano

A Kano High Court has granted an interim order restraining the executive committee of the Kano Civil Society Forum inaugurated recently, from parading themselves as leaders of the forum.

The Ambassador Ibrahim Waiya led executive had gone to seek justice over what it called exclusion of many registered members during the last election that produced the sacked new excos.

Ambassador Waiya had claimed that the election was conducted in disregard to their complaints despite formal requests for a postponement to ensure fairness and inclusion.

The Kano Civil Society Forum Board of Trustees had appointed an electoral committee to conduct the election, but the process was allegedly marred by irregularities, leading to the court action.

The presiding Judge, Justice Aisha Ya’u, granted Ambassador Waiya’s led executive prayers who alleged that the election that produced the executive committee was marred by irregularities, unprofessionalism, and exclusion of many registered members.

The court order, specifically named 17 individuals, including Mohammad Bello, Fatima Musa, Aliyu Kabiru, and others, all affected by the court order as those restrained from presenting themselves as elected executives of the forum.

The case has been slated for hearing on September 10, 2024.
