AMG Foundation Celebrates 2024 Winners of Late Dr. Shehi Ali Annual Award
The Aminu Magashi Garba (AMG) Foundation has honored four exceptional health professionals at the 4th Annual Late Dr. Shehi Ali Abubakar Award, held in Kano.
The event was organized to celebrate the legacy of the late Dr. Shehi Ali, a renowned healthcare professional and philanthropist, whose contributions to the health sector in Kano State and beyond remain unforgettable.
During the award presentation, Dr. Musa Muhammad Bello described Dr. Shehi’s passing as a profound loss to the global medical community.
He noted that Dr. Shehi devoted much of his life to research and to supporting vulnerable groups, especially sickle cell patients, while also mentoring his colleagues to achieve their goals.
He commended the late Dr. Shehi for his remarkable achievements, including his role as a consultant radiologist and a pioneer in transcranial Doppler studies.
Dr. Bello also highlighted Dr. Shehi’s leadership roles in the medical field, such as serving as Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kano State Chapter; President of the Association of Resident Doctors at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH); and as a board member of the Kano Ultra-Modern Specialist Hospitals (KUSH).
He emphasized that the award serves not only as a tribute but as a call to young health practitioners to emulate Dr. Shehi’s exemplary dedication to healthcare and philanthropy.
The awards recognized two Outstanding Resident Doctors, Dr. Abbas Muhammad Rabiu and Dr. Nuraddeen Mukhtar Rabiu, and two Outstanding Radiographers, Dr. Muhammad Sajo and Dr. A’isha Ahmad Muhammad, all from the Radiography Unit of AKTH. Each Outstanding Resident Doctor received ₦100,000, while the Outstanding Radiographers were awarded ₦75,000 each.
Dr. Fatima Ali, elder sister of the late Dr. Shehi, expressed gratitude to the AMG Foundation and its founder, Dr. Aminu Magashi, for their dedication to immortalizing her brother’s legacy.
She acknowledged the foundation’s philanthropic efforts in promoting healthcare and supporting professionals in Kano and beyond.
The ceremony was graced by several notable guests, including Dr. Shehi’s wife, Dr. Zainab Ibrahim; the Head of the Radiology Department at AKTH, Dr. Yusuf Lawan; former HOD Radiology, Prof. Annas Isma’il; as well as friends, family members, and colleagues of the late Dr. Shehi.
