Aminu Dantata’s funeral postponed to tomorrow, Tuesday’
The Nigerian government has announced the postponement of the funeral of prominent businessman, Alhaji Aminu Dantata, who died on Saturday in the United Arab Emirates.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, confirmed to the BBC that the funeral was postponed due to the failure to transport the deceased’s body to Medina on time.
“There are regulations set by the Saudi government on how to bring a body for burial in the country, so now the paperwork is being filled out between the Saudi government and the family of the deceased,” the minister said.
Mohammed Idris said that once completed, the body will be brought from the United Arab Emirates to Saudi Arabia.
He added that the Nigerian embassy in Saudi Arabia and the deceased’s family have already completed the funeral arrangements.
Reports say that Alhaji Aminu Dantata left a will to be buried in the city of Medina, where his brothers sought approval from Saudi authorities for the request, which was granted.
This morning, delegations from the federal government and Kano state government left for Saudi Arabia to attend the funeral scheduled for Monday.
