Strengthening Nigeria’s Diplomacy Amid U.S. Threats and Global Misperceptions

Your Excellency,

I write to you not just as a citizen, but as a Nigerian who believes deeply in the promise of this nation — a country that has stood tall through adversity, held together by its people’s faith, resilience, and humanity.

In recent days, the world has heard unsettling remarks from the President of the United States, suggesting that “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” and even hinting at possible U.S. intervention. Such words, while grave, should not shake our national confidence. Instead, they should remind us that diplomacy is not about reacting in anger but responding with truth, wisdom, and dignity.

Nigeria is not a land of religious war.
We are a people of faith — many faiths, who share the same roads, markets, schools, and dreams. The violence that has troubled our nation is not a fight between Christians and Muslims; it is the handiwork of extremists, criminals, and opportunists who exploit our diversity for their own gain. Boko Haram, ISWAP, bandit groups, and separatist militias have all inflicted pain on ordinary Nigerians Christians, Muslims, and others alike.

Our unity has been tested, but it has never broken.

Nigeria’s Voice Must Be Heard

Your Excellency, this is the moment for Nigeria’s voice to ring clearly and proudly across the world.
We need strong and trusted envoys representing us in every major global capital Washington, London, Paris, Berlin, Ottawa, Rome, and Tokyo. When our ambassadors speak, they must not only represent our policies, but also tell our human story that of a nation that has chosen coexistence over chaos.

In diplomacy, presence matters. When meetings of consequence are held, our most senior representatives must be there in person. The presence of our Minister of Foreign Affairs at the table does more than fulfil protocol; it signals seriousness, respect, and resolve.

Dialogue Over Discord

Nigeria must continue to engage our partners including the United States through honest dialogue, not emotional confrontation.
True diplomacy is not about pride; it is about clarity. We must explain our situation factually and calmly, showing that Nigeria remains committed to protecting every life, every community, and every faith.

Let our embassies host more open forums, let our diplomats speak to both governments and civil societies abroad. And within Africa, let us rally ECOWAS, the African Union, and our continental brothers and sisters to affirm that while Africa welcomes partnership, it will never accept external coercion or misrepresentation.

Our Commitment to Law and Humanity

Nigeria’s greatness has always rested on law and moral conscience.
Your Excellency, by continuing to anchor our actions in the United Nations Charter and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, you demonstrate to the world that Nigeria is guided not by emotions or ego, but by principle and order.

When we act lawfully, we disarm false narratives. When we act justly, we earn respect — not by demanding it, but by deserving it.

Renewing Hope Through Security Reform

Mr President, I commend you sincerely for declaring a state of emergency on Nigeria’s security training institutions.
It was a bold step one that recognises that security begins with capacity, not slogans.
Your directive for all Governors and security chiefs to conduct a 30-day audit of training facilities and modernisation needs sends a message that you are not content with patchwork solutions. You seek transformation.

It is through such reforms that our frontline personnel, the police officer, the civil defender, the soldier will be better trained, better equipped, and better motivated to serve with honour. And it is through them that the faith of ordinary Nigerians in their government will be restored.

The World Is Watching And Hoping

Your Excellency, the world is watching Nigeria not as a failing nation, but as a nation at a crossroads, a country with the moral authority and human capital to redefine African leadership in the 21st century.

The right path forward is not silence or confrontation, but leadership — calm, deliberate, and firm.
Nigeria’s destiny has always been to lead by example, not by aggression. We must continue to prove that leadership is about dialogue, not domination; faith, not fanaticism; and unity, not uniformity.

Let our story be told not through others, but through our own voices, proud, balanced, and truthful.

May God continue to grant you wisdom, calmness, and courage,
as you guide Nigeria through these challenging times with the compassion and conviction that true leadership requires.

Long Live President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria
