APC Directs Rivers State Assembly to Initiate Impeachment Proceedings Against Governor Fubara
The opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has instructed the State House of Assembly, led by Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminilayi Fubara.
Chief Tony Okocha, the APC Caretaker Committee (CTC) chairman in the State, issued the directive during a press briefing in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Tuesday.
The State Assembly comprises 27 members who are loyal to the former governor of the state and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Okocha cited Governor Fubara’s recent remarks that President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the state’s political crisis was only a political solution, not a constitutional one, as the reason for the party’s decision.
He stated that if the Assembly fails to initiate the impeachment process, the party will use relevant sections of its constitution to discipline its members.
Governor Fubara had previously declared the 27 members of the State Assembly as “non-existent.”
