Both major political parties in Jigawa state, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition People Democratic Party (PDP), have finalized preparations for the upcoming re-run election in the Birnin Kudu/Buji federal constituency scheduled for Saturday.
Assuring a peaceful electoral process, both parties expressed confidence in securing victory in the rerun. Speaking after the Planning and Election Strategic Committee meeting, Hon. Aminu Sani Gumel, the Jigawa state Chairman of the APC, stated that their party is fully prepared to reclaim the seat lost due to an INEC administrative error during the 2023 general election.
Hon. Aminu emphasized their commitment to compliance with election regulations and vowed to prevent any form of violence.
He declared, “Election is not a do-or-die affair, and Governor Malam Umar Namadi, our leader, advocates for peaceful conduct for the progress and development of our dear state.”
Similarly, Hon. Aliyu Idris Diginsa Sa’id, the Jigawa state chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), despite the court verdict nullifying their victory and ordering a re-run election at eight polling units, expressed optimism about retaining the seat.
Highlighting democracy as the voice of the majority, Hon. Diginsa asserted that PDP has the majority in Birnin Kudu/Buji Federal constituency and beyond.
He called on party members and supporters in the affected polling units to participate in the re-run and reaffirm PDP’s victory.
Hon. Diginsa concluded by urging members to uphold the law during and after the election, emphasizing PDP’s commitment to peace and offering full support to security measures for maintaining law and order.
