A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Maryam Shetty, on Monday said the party’s future was bright under the leadership of its National Chairman, Mr. Nentawe Yilwatda, as she led hundreds of youths to the formal reception of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf into the party in Kano State.
The event, held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, attracted top party leaders and supporters from across the state.
Shetty, a former ministerial nominee under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, arrived in striking white attire, accompanied by a large group of enthusiastic youths, underscoring her growing influence within the party in Kano and beyond.
Speaking with journalists, she described Yilwatda as “a generational shift in the APC—one that fuses technocratic competence with strategic political leadership.”
Shetty added, “As a party deeply rooted in progressive values and national development, I am confident that Professor Yilwatda’s leadership will ensure renewed unity, strategic direction, and grassroots re-engagement—crucial for consolidating the gains of the Tinubu-led administration.”
She further praised his credentials, saying, “Professor Yilwatda’s impressive track record as a technocrat and public servant, coupled with his long-standing contributions to democratic governance in Nigeria, make him well-suited to lead the party into a new era of progress and inclusivity. His leadership has become a source of renewed confidence for party members and stakeholders across the country.”
Shetty said Nigeria requires modern, data-driven political leadership grounded in practical governance, qualities she said are reflected in Yilwatda’s approach. She added that his action plans and leadership style have injected new energy into the party at a crucial moment in its political evolution.
Shetty noted that as the country moves towards the next electoral cycle, Yilwatda is seen within the party as a key strategic asset for strengthening internal unity and electoral preparedness. She urged party members to support efforts aimed at consolidating stability, unity, and organisational effectiveness within the APC.
Throughout the programme, Shetty and her supporters openly expressed their support for President Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, and the APC, engaging party leaders and greeting supporters across the stadium.
