Ardo heads to Supreme Court over Adamawa governorship election

From Umar Dankano, Yola

Dr. Umar Ardo, the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 Adamawa State gubernatorial election, has announced his decision to appeal the ruling of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which dismissed his earlier appeal challenging the election of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Dr. Ardo expressed his dissatisfaction with the reasons advanced in the Court of Appeal’s judgment via his verified Twitter handle on Tuesday.

He stated, “Having attentively listened to the judgment of the learned justices of the Court of Appeal today dismissing my appeal, I am satisfied that my further appeal at the Supreme Court has been given brighter chances of success as many of the rubbishes made by the tribunal have been upturned and resolved in my favor.”

He continued, “Except the ignorants, the learned lawyers of my opponents wouldn’t be rejoicing on the judgment today. I am sure they’re braising up for a cross-appeal themselves. See you all at the Supreme Court upper week.”

It is recalled that Dr. Ardo approached the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, praying through his petition for the cancellation of the election due to alleged electoral malpractices, bribery, violence, and corruption against Governor Umaru Fintiri and his party, the PDP. However, the petition was struck out for lacking in merit.

Subsequently, Dr. Ardo appealed the Tribunal’s verdict to the Court of Appeal, seeking justice, but the appeal was also dismissed.
