Arewa Professionals Forum Calls for Impartiality in Ex-AGF Idris’ Trial
By Ibrahim Hamisu
The Arewa Professionals Forum, in a press conference on Friday in Kaduna, urged both the judiciary and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure a fair and just trial for the former Accountant General of the Federation, Mallam Ahmed Idris.
The group’s secretary, Comrade Muhammad Auwal, expressed concern over what they perceive as a media trial fueled by misinformation and reiterated Idris’ meritorious service to the nation. Auwal criticized the Southern Solidarity Forum’s earlier call for preemptive justice, emphasizing the need for caution while the matter is still in court.
Auwal addressed the claims made by Otunba Olagoke Fabiyi of the Southern Solidarity Forum, stating, “Assertions that Mallam Ahmed Idris was being ‘clever by half’ in his statements to the EFCC are unfounded. The Evidence Act, 2023, allows for the nullification of statements made under duress, deception, intimidation, and manipulations. Referring to such claims as ‘childish’ is needless and smacks of ignorance.”
Mallam Abdullahi Maidoki, the Northwest Coordinator of Arewa Professionals Forum, emphasized confidence in the judiciary and urged the EFCC to be allowed to carry out its duties without preemptive judgments. Maidoki questioned the motives behind the Southern Solidarity Forum’s call, suggesting ulterior considerations.
Maidoki concluded, “Mallam Ahmed Idris is a builder of the future, not a destroyer. His contributions, including providing scholarships, securing jobs, and supporting education, have endeared him to the masses. We implore all to await court proceedings diligently and refrain from passing judgment without evidence. Let us remain steadfast in prayers for justice for Mallam Ahmed Idris.”
