Assessment Team Inspects Proposed Bauchi Teaching Hospital, FMC

An assessment team of the Federal Ministry of Health & Social Welfare headed by the Director of Hospital Services, Dr. Jimoh O. Salaudeen has inspected key facilities and equipment at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Azare; Federal Medical Centre, Azare and General Hospital, Misau respectively in a move by the Federal Government to upgrade the two latter health institutions.

Dr. Jimoh  Salaudeen explained during the assessment exercise, that with the take off of the Federal University of Health Sciences for the. North East Sub region in Azare, FMC, Azare is being considered for upgrading to the role of a Laboratory for practical training of Medical Students of the University.

Leader of the assessment team disclosed that they found all necessary facilities and some equipment in perfect working conditions, qualifying FMC, Azare for upgrading to a Teaching Hospital for FUHSA and General Hospital, Misau to the status of a Federal Medical Centre.

In his speech while receiving the team, the Medical Director, FMC, Azare, Dr. Dauda Abubakar Katagum said the long anticipated upgrade is a positive move by the government, pointing out that the North East Sub region currently facing various health challenges, will greatly benefit from the planned transformation.

When the team paid courtesy calls on the Emir of Katagum Alhaji Umar Faruk II and his counterpart of Misau, Alhaji Ahmed Sulaiman, mni, both royal fathers expressed delight over the development which they observed, will ease access to tertiary health services for their respective communities.
