From Alhaji Yusuf, Damaturu
Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has pledged to construct the remaining 38 Primary Health Care Centers (PHCs) needed to achieve full coverage across the state’s 178 political wards.
The announcement was made on Sunday at the closing ceremony of the 2026 Machina Cultural Festival (MACUF).
Governor Buni revealed that 140 PHCs have already been built. This drive follows Yobe’s recent first-place ranking in primary healthcare delivery nationwide, an achievement he credited to the state’s health workers.
“We received $1.2 million as a reward for this achievement,”Buni stated, affirming that the funds are being directed toward the construction goal.
He emphasized a comprehensive strategy, noting that buildings alone are insufficient. To staff the new facilities, his administration has recruited and deployed approximately over 3,000 medical personnel.
Beyond healthcare, the Governor announced an expansion of the state’s agricultural empowerment scheme, with plans to support 50 individuals per ward this year, increasing from 30 last year.
Governor Buni cited the large festival gathering as evidence of restored peace in Yobe and called for continued prayers for stability.
The event was attended by dignitaries including former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan and traditional rulers from across Nigeria and the Niger Republic.
Earlier, Governor Buni commissioned a philanthropic housing estate in Nguru and inspected health, agricultural, and market projects in Machina.
