BABACHIR and the question of Integrity
I have come across an interview credited to former SGF, Babachir David Lawan where he was responding to allegations leveled against him by Adamawa ADC Chairman on moves to replace the Chairman through the back door.
In the interview, the former SGF claims among many other things that since the inception of APC his support has always been to former President Muhammadu Buhari not the party. Like seriously?
Permit me to take Babachir through some memory lane. Before his appointment as the Vice Chairman of the party, North East, BD Lawal is a name that was not even on the political radar. Yet, after Buhari nominated him into the party, he worked against the same party in 2015, allowing the party having a marginal win over PDP with 17,365 votes for the APC while the PDP with 16,662; in the same vein, he ensured PDP won his Local Government of Hong in 2019 with 23,039 votes for the opposition against 20,039 for the APC and repeated same at the 2023 general elections where the APC performed miserably poor coming far distance second. One wonders when, how and where the former SGF got his bragging rights of supporting PMB.
For BD Lawal to come forward today and claim supporting Buhari is just a figment of his imagination. In his position, even as SGF there was no record anywhere where his claim can be substantiated either through the ballots or any other ways.
Adamawa ADC Chairman also accused BD Lawal of being a spy in the ADC who may be working for the APC which the former SGF vehemently rejected. On this, I find it difficult to reconcile the fact that Babachir who claimed to work for PMB in his days but handed over his Unit and Local Government all the times for opposition can walk out of this weighty accusation free with just a dismissal.
In addition, the former SGF’s admission of working against the Gubernatorial Candidate of APC at the 2023 general elections is enough reason to scare away party faithfuls of harboring a proud anti party agent who is not remorseful of sabotaging his former party.
Lastly, it is very clear, that BD Lawal has an agenda and a history of betrayal. The state chairman is right to draw the attention of our father, Alh Atiku Abubakar to be wary of people like this who might be working for external interests at the detrement of the party.
A stich in time…….
