Bayero University Denies Rumors of Fake Professors, Calls Publication “Malicious”

By Mustapha Salisu

The management of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has strongly denied allegations that 20 “fake professors” are working at the institution.

The claims surfaced on social media in a purported publication alleging to have uncovered over 100 such individuals across Nigerian universities.

In a statement, BUK Vice Chancellor Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas called the publication “malicious, doctored and fallacious,” aimed at damaging the university’s reputation.

He emphasized that no such professors exist at BUK, a fact supported by recent global rankings placing the university among the top in the country.

Professor Abbas further pointed to the National Universities Commission (NUC)’s denial of any “fake professors” in Nigerian universities.

He urged the public to disregard the publication as fabricated and intended to harm the credibility of Nigerian universities.

According to the VC, BUK prides itself on its commitment to quality and high standards, contributing to its recognition as a leading institution of learning.

“It should be on record that  recently, BUK ranked as the 5th best University in Nigeria in terms of research, training and quality of academic programmes and 2nd best in Nigeria in terms of international outlook by the United Kingdom-based Times Higher Education”

“In addition, the university was adjudged as 3rd best Value University for international students by another international educational database assessor StudyAbroadAide, based in South Korea”

“Also ranked as the 5th best university in Nigeria for research, training, and academic program quality (Times Higher Education) as well as 2nd best university in Nigeria for international outlook (Times Higher Education) and 3rd best Value University for international students (StudyAbroadAide)” boasted Abbas

These accomplishments, Professor Abbas noted, are a testament to BUK’s dedication to qualified staff and competent graduates. He concluded by reiterating the call to disregard the false publication and reaffirmed BUK’s commitment to excellence.
