Birnin Gwari Sees Improvements in Peace, Development
From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna
The Birnin Gwari Emirate Progressives Union (BEPU) has acknowledged the recent improvements in security and economic activity in the area.
According to BEPU, incidents of banditry have decreased significantly since late 2024, allowing residents to return to their farms and resume normal economic activities.
The union stated that federal highways through Birnin Gwari have become safer, with grain and livestock markets gradually reopening after long periods of disruption.
During a recent visit to Kaduna State, President Bola Tinubu announced the Federal Executive Council’s approval for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of three critical highways — Kaduna–Birnin Gwari, Birnin Gwari–Funtua, and Birnin Gwari–Tegina–Mokwa.
BEPU also acknowledged the efforts of Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani in supporting security and economic recovery in Birnin Gwari.
The union expressed support for the proposed establishment of a modern livestock market and abattoir in the area and called for quality and accountability from contractors handling the Birnin Gwari–Randagi road project.
The union encouraged the Federal Government to consider establishing a Federal University of Minerals and Forest Resources in Birnin Gwari, citing the area’s mineral and forest resources.
BEPU offered condolences to the people of Benue and Niger States over recent incidents of violence and flooding and expressed concern about illegal logging, mining, and poaching in Kamuku National Park.
The union urged the Ministry of Environment and the park’s management to intensify efforts to protect the area.
