BREAKING: NCC Approves 50% Tariff Adjustment for Telecom Operators

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has approved a 50% tariff adjustment for telecom operators, attributing the decision to rising operational costs and the need to ensure the sustainability of the telecommunications industry.

The announcement, made in a statement on Monday, noted that the approved adjustment is significantly lower than the over 100% hike proposed by some network providers.

According to the NCC, the tariff adjustment complies with its regulatory mandate under Section 108 of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, which empowers the commission to oversee and approve telecom tariff rates.

The revised tariffs will remain within the existing 2013 tariff bands and will be implemented in line with the NCC’s 2024 Guidance on Tariff Simplification, ensuring a balanced approach to pricing.

Despite the upward adjustment, the NCC emphasized that consumer protection remains a top priority, assuring subscribers that measures will be taken to mitigate the impact of the changes.
