BREAKING: NLC Threatens Nationwide Strike if President is Detained
The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a stern warning of a nationwide strike if the Nigeria Police detains its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
The warning was delivered on Tuesday morning at the NLC headquarters following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting. The meeting was convened to address the police’s invitation to Ajaero over allegations of terrorism financing.
During the NEC meeting, it was resolved that Ajaero should comply with the police summons. However, the council instructed the union’s legal adviser to request an extension of time for Ajaero’s appearance before the authorities.
Comrade Ado Kabiru Sani, the NLC Deputy President, called on workers across the country to be on standby for further instructions, should the police move to detain Ajaero.
“As a responsible labor center, we intend to honor the police invitation, as we are not a faceless organization. However, we are working with our lawyer to secure an extension,” Sani stated.
He added, “If the President is arrested, all workers will immediately down tools. We urge everyone to await further directives from our leadership.”
