The alumni of the Bayero University Kano (BUK), Faculty of Arts and Islamic Studies, Class 1997 held a remarkable reunion, bringing together distinguished graduants, respected guests, and members of the academic community in a vibrant celebration of shared history, achievements, and enduring bonds.
The event, chaired by Dr Abubakar Rabo Abdulkarim, Wazirin Garun Malam stated that it served as a platform for coming together after many years, in reflection of collective experiences, and celebrating the significant milestones attained by members of the class across various sectors.
The Wazirin Garun Malam used the opportunity to expressed his happiness for the members to reunite for the first time in 29 years describing it as a step forward in the right directions.
He added that the meeting aimed at complimenting and supporting the family of the deceased members among them as well as to strengthen the bond between them .
Dr Rabo also called on the Old Students Union to emulate same.
In her welcome address, the Chairperson of the Publicity Committee, Hajiya Husaina Sa’id Bichi, who doubled as the Director News, ARTV warmly greeted attendees and described the reunion as “a moment of pride, reflection, and renewed unity.”
She emphasized that the gathering was not only about reminiscing but also about recognizing the progress and impact made by alumni since their graduation.
A special highlight of the event was the recognition of female alumni of the Class of 1997, who were commended for their resilience, leadership, and contributions to their families, communities, and professional fields.
Their role as “leaders, mothers, and change-makers” among which are Doctorate holders, professors , CEOs was celebrated as a cornerstone of the class’s legacy.
Some of the attendees expressed appreciation for the opportunity to reconnect, strengthen relationships, and create new memories. The reunion also reinforced the importance of sustaining alumni networks and fostering collaboration for future initiatives and supports.
The event concluded with a renewed commitment among members to uphold the values of unity, mutual support, and excellence that have defined the BUK Class of 1997 over the years with some of them professors, royal highnesses, distinguished media consultants , gurus and lots more in executive cadre.
