The Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, has met with a research team from Bayero University, Kano (BUK), led by Professor Muktar Gadanya, MFR, to explore strategies aimed at improving staff attendance and discipline in primary health care facilities across the state.
Sa’adatu Suleiman, Public Relations Officer, KSPHCMB disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen.
During the engagement, the BUK research team briefed the DG on findings from their interactions with selected PHC facilities. The study seeks to support health workers in tackling issues of absenteeism, lateness, and early closure, while promoting accountability and improved productivity at the grassroots level.
According to the team, the initiative is designed to identify workplace challenges faced by PHC personnel and provide evidence-based solutions that will enhance efficiency and service delivery in the sector.
Responding, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim highlighted ongoing reforms by the Board to strengthen attendance monitoring through the introduction of a biometric system. He revealed that the biometric capturing exercise is currently underway for all staff and selected PHCs under a pilot phase, reaffirming the Board’s commitment to transparency, efficiency, and effective workforce management.
The meeting underscores a growing collaboration between academic institutions and government agencies in driving sustainable improvements within the state’s health care system.
