CAA U-18, U-20 Champs: Athletes vow to lift Nigeria’s Image with sterling performance
As the 3rd Confederation of Africa Athletics (CAA) Junior Championships draws near, Nigerian athletes in camp have reiterated their dedication to delivering outstanding results, thereby enhancing the country’s image at the upcoming event in Abeokuta.
Recall that the CAA U-18 and U-20 athletics championship will take place in Abeokuta, Ogun State, from July 16th to 20th, with over 945 athletes and officials expected to attend.
In a recent interaction with some Nigerian athletes in camp, they expressed confidence and assurance that Nigerians would witness a remarkable competition that would elevate the nation’s image through their collective efforts.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, some Under-20 athletes expressed their belief that the rigorous training they have undergone in camp has equipped them with the confidence to confront any challenges that may arise during the championship.
In a chat with some Nigeria’s Athletes, “One of them said, “This would be my first international athletics championship and I won’t let myself and country down. Some of us are determined to showcase our talents with the desire to project our talents to the world.”
On their training since coming to camp, the athletes thumbed up and praised their coaches for the kind of hard training they are receiving which they said is geared towards giving them a commanding performance at the championship.
“Our coaches are giving us special work-outs, which I won’t go into details, much improvement have been achieved in all of us”
On the challenges they may face from other countries, Nigeria’s Athletes believe that as host, they have a slight advantage and would try to be professional and focus on delivering results capable of winning medals.
On Nigeria’s area of strength at the competition, the athletes said, “Nigeria’s area of strength is in the Sprints, and relays, we are also coming good in the quarter-mile and throws. As juniors, we are being trained for every event”
On feeding, the athletes insisted that their diet is qualitative enough to keep them healthy and fit for competition. “Our food is planned by nutritionist and so far so good”.

The athletes were elated that the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN)
has made adequate plans to keep them competitive with medicals and other provisions for healthy camping.
