CITAD Empowers Youth in E-Waste Management with “3R” Training Program

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched the second phase of its training program, equipping 40 youths with skills in digital technology repair, recovery, and reuse (3R).
PRIME TIME NEWS gathered that this initiative aims to combat the health hazards associated with electronic waste (e-waste) while promoting a circular economy.
Engr. Y.Z. Ya’u, CITAD’s Executive Director, represented by Dr. Bello Rufa’i Bello, urged participants during an orientation exercise held on Monday at CITAD’s Kano, to actively engage during the training and develop sustainable business plans for a 15-20 year period.
He emphasized the importance of registering these plans with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) to ensure effective service delivery.
Malam Ibrahim Nuhu, CITAD’s E-Waste Project Officer, highlighted the project’s central goal: equipping participants with strategies for deploying a refurbished approach to e-waste management and embracing the circular economy.
Nuhu emphasized that transforming e-waste into usable devices will not only protect public health but also create wealth for communities, generate employment opportunities, and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
Dr. Nura Jafar Shanono, Special Adviser to the Executive Governor of Kano State on Water Resources, delivered a presentation on “Circular Economy in the Digital Tech Sector.”
He explained that the circular economy aims to extend the life cycle of products, regenerate resources, and minimize waste, ultimately addressing global challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss.
Professor Aliyu Jauro, Director-General of NESREA, sent a goodwill message to CITAD, emphasizing the importance of the training program.
Represented by Engr. Umar Adamu, the DG encouraged participants to utilize the acquired knowledge effectively to eliminate e-waste from their communities and promote the circular economy as a driver of positive transformation in the globalized and competitive world.
