CITAD, NAPTIP Sensitise Rano Community on GBV as 16 Days of Activism Kicks Off

The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), in collaboration with the NAPTIP Kano Zonal Command, on Saturday conducted a community sensitisation in Rano Local Government Area of Kano State as part of activities marking the 2025 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Speaking at the event, the Communication Officer of the Male Feminist Network Project, Mr. Buhari Abba, said CITAD and its partners had remained committed to addressing gender-based violence both online and offline.

“We are working tirelessly with our partners to curb gender-based violence in all its forms. Men must understand that they have a major role to play, and we are encouraging them to become allies in ending GBV,” he said.

Abba also disclosed that CITAD recently unveiled a new digital tool known as Reportix, designed to support the fight against gender-based violence and other social concerns.

“Reportix will help communities report GBV cases, fake news, digital rights violations and even abandoned projects. It is a platform built to strengthen accountability and improve response mechanisms,” he added.

Also speaking, Hajiya Rasheeda Aminu, Gender Officer of NAPTIP Kano Zonal Command, highlighted the core responsibilities of the agency, particularly in handling cases of trafficking and violence against persons.

“NAPTIP is working every day to protect citizens, especially women and girls who are most vulnerable. We urge the public to report any case of gender-based violence directly to our Kano Zonal Office or through our official toll-free lines,” she said.

Aminu stressed that public cooperation remained essential for timely response and successful prosecution of offenders.

The theme of the 2025 16 Days of Activism campaign is “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.” The global observance, held annually from November 25 to December 10, focuses this year on the increasing cases of digital abuse and the need to create safer online spaces for women.

The initiative calls for stronger collaboration among governments, technology companies, educators and individuals to prevent online violence and promote inclusive digital rights.
