CITAD Online Radio Hosts Experience-Sharing Iftar with Listeners

By Mustapha Salisu

The CITAD Online Radio, in its continuous efforts to strengthen its bond with listeners since its inception five years ago, hosted an experience-sharing Iftar (breakfast) session with its active audience.

The memorable event, held on Saturday at CITAD’s Kano office, brought together a diverse group of listeners, including civic actors, media professionals, students, and other stakeholders.

In his welcome remarks, the Centre’s Executive Director, Engr. Y.Z Ya’u, represented by Buhari Abba, welcomed participants to the event.

He explained that the purpose of the experience-sharing session was to gather listeners’ perceptions of the radio station, identify challenges, and explore ways to strengthen its operations.

Buhari emphasized that CITAD Online Radio was founded with the goal of amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and highlighting public concerns to prompt action.

Ali Sabo, the Station Manager of CITAD Online Radio, stressed the importance of reflection and evaluation in any endeavor.

He noted, “For every course taken, there is a need to pause, reflect, and assess where we are, how far we have come, and what our next line of action should be.”

Sabo added that the gathering aimed to identify challenges and develop solutions to enhance the station’s impact.

During the session, listeners shared suggestions to improve the station’s content and production quality. Key recommendations included enhancing studio lighting, upgrading camera and sound quality, and introducing a dedicated technology-focused program, given CITAD’s strong presence in the ICT sector.

Additionally, participants proposed launching a podcast on topical issues and adjusting program schedules to accommodate the rising cost of internet data, ensuring broader accessibility.

PRIME TIME NEWS reports that, CITAD Online Radio was established in April 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, when movement restrictions limited conventional communication channels. Recognizing the need for an alternative platform to engage rural communities, CITAD’s Executive Director initiated the online radio project. Initially launched via the website www.citadradio.com.ng, the station has since expanded its reach with a dedicated mobile app and active presence on social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, TikTok, and Radio Garden.
