The management of the College of Education (COE) Gumel has commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for approving the release of over N17 million to settle outstanding payments for casual workers whose services were discontinued in 2013.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Registrar of the college, Malam Bala Isyaku, and made available to journalists.

“The total sum of seventeen million, twenty-eight thousand naira (₦17,028,000) has been paid to 203 successfully screened casual workers through online payment via UBA Bank,” the statement read.

It further noted that the payments commenced on Friday, October 22, 2024, following a screening exercise conducted by the management staff under the supervision of the College Council members.

However, the statement revealed that 14 individuals who were part of the approved list have yet to appear before the screening committee. These workers have been urged to visit the college for screening to receive their entitlements as approved by Governor Namadi.

The Provost of the college, Professor Nura Muhammad Ringim, expressed gratitude to the governor for his dedication to improving the education sector and prioritizing workers’ welfare.

“The governor’s commitment to addressing these long-standing issues is a testament to his passion for transforming education and enhancing the well-being of workers in Jigawa State,” Professor Ringim remarked.
