The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has urged its members “to be on the alert and come out in defence of democracy and the judiciary” in the face of a demonstration allegedly being planned by the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the state.
A statement issued by the party’s Public Relations Officer(PRO) in the state, Ahmed Aruwa, alleged that the NNPP is planning the demonstration over a yet-to-be decided petition at the National and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal.
Aruwa said APC members had been “fully mobilised to counter any anti-democratic demonstrations by the NNPP.”
According to him, the planned demonstration is a deliberate attempt to intimidate the Judiciary and ultimately truncate democracy, rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
He said that the APC had confidence in the judiciary in carrying out its responsibilities and reminded the NNPP that whatever the judgement in the case could be appealed at the Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court .
The PRO, therefore, urged all APC members in the state to remain alert and await further instruction from the party.
