Concerned Coalition of Military Veterans Commends President Tinubu

From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna

The Coalition of Military Veterans has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for honoring his promise to address military pension issues.

In a press statement jointly signed and made available to newsmen by Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts, REMENAF National Coordinator and CCV Spokesperson/Secretary of the 5-Man Ministerial Standing Committee, the veterans expressed their gratitude for the administration’s commitment to their welfare.

The statement read:

“Following a successful and non-violent peaceful protest on December 4th and 5th, 2024, by the Coalition of Concerned Military Veterans and its affiliated pressure groups, we, the leadership, on behalf of the entire Military Veterans Community, sincerely pay tribute to the following government officials for their support.

“We, members of the Veterans’ community and families of our fallen heroes, cannot thank you enough for recognizing the sacrifices we made to maintain peace and unity in Nigeria. We pledge to continue upholding our oath of allegiance, even in retirement, as we await the fulfillment of other welfare promises made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in the coming days and before the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.”

The coalition also acknowledged the contributions of Dr. Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, describing him as a “most insulted, denigrated, and disrespected Veteran leader and politician.” They highlighted his critical “behind-the-scenes” efforts in liaising with the Ministers of Defence and State Defence during this crucial period.

“Our gratitude extends to other leadership figures in various associations, whose roles will be detailed in our next statement. Their contributions were indispensable during this period,” the statement added.

Additionally, the coalition revealed that an official letter of appreciation, signed by Air Commodore Femi Oguntuyi (Rtd.), mni, President of the Coalition of Concerned Military Veterans and Chairman of the MoD Ministerial Standing Committee on Military Veterans Welfare, has been dispatched to President Tinubu and other key government officials.

The veterans concluded by reiterating their commitment to patriotism and the unity of Nigeria while expressing optimism for further improvements in their welfare under the Tinubu administration.
