From Umar Dankano, Yola
A fifty-four (54)-member newly elected State Executive Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been inaugurated in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, for a four-year tenure.
Inaugurating the state leadership, Chairman of the ADC Congress Committee, General Ishaya Bauka, said the committee conducted the unit, ward, and local government congresses peacefully, without rancour.
General Bauka, while charging the new executives to carry party members along in managing its affairs, announced that Barrister Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin was elected and returned as State Chairman; Shagnah Pwamadd I. Maboyefe as State Secretary; Moh’d Arabi Mustapha as State Organising Secretary; and Umar Sadiq as State Youth Leader.
Others elected at the congress include Barrister Rahab Audi as State Woman Leader, Martins Yanatham Dickson as State Publicity Secretary, and Naiwa Fakuta Hyellagizoya as State Treasurer, among others.
In his acceptance speech, the State Chairman, Barrister Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin, thanked party members for the opportunity to serve, pledging to run an inclusive administration.
Dasin acknowledged the roles played by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), David Lawan Babachir, as well as other critical stakeholders. He also announced plans to commence reconciliation efforts to ensure inclusiveness within the party.
The oath of office was administered to the new officials by Barrister E.J. Garba, to the admiration of party members and invited guests who graced the event.
It would be recalled that the ADC is currently facing an internal leadership crisis, as the embattled chairman, Comrade Shehu Yohanna, secured an interim order from a State High Court restraining the Congress Committee from conducting the party’s congresses. However, the committee, at a press conference in Yola on Thursday, claimed it had not been served with such an order.
Meanwhile, the Forum of ADC Local Government Chairmanship and Councillorship Candidates expressed concern that the prolonged crisis could affect the party’s prospects in the forthcoming local government council elections.
In a statement signed by the forum’s Chairman and Secretary, Abubakar Ahmadu and Dennis Kakaba, the group urged the party leadership to tread carefully in the overall interest of the party.
“In view of the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections scheduled for 13th June 2026, we wish to express deep concern over the persistent leadership crisis currently affecting the party in the state.
“As candidates, our loyalty to the leadership of the party remains intact, and we are actively engaged in grassroots mobilisation. However, we consider this prolonged dispute a serious threat to the party’s prospects in the upcoming council elections and other political engagements.
“We therefore call on the National Leadership of the ADC to urgently and impartially intervene. The establishment of a reconciliation committee to engage all stakeholders and facilitate a lasting resolution is crucial at this stage.
“We also encourage respected leaders and neutral voices within the state to support efforts toward peace and unity.
“We reaffirm our unwavering loyalty to the ADC and its leadership in Adamawa State, as well as our commitment to securing victory in the 13th June 2026 elections. We remain steadfast in our campaigns and dedicated to promoting the party’s vision across all communities.
“We firmly believe that unity within the party is essential for electoral success, and our chances will be significantly enhanced if we approach the elections as a united and cohesive force,” the forum stated.
