Constituents Renew Confidence in Gombe South Lawmaker
By Rabilu Abubakar, Gombe
Residents of Gombe South have interacted with their representative in the State House of Assembly, Comrade Mustapha Usman Hassan, during a town hall meeting organised to review community priorities and challenges.
The session, which brought together stakeholders from different parts of the constituency, was convened by Youth O’Clock in collaboration with Breach Initiative for Good Governance and Advocacy Centre for Development.
The gathering focused on key issues affecting daily life in the constituency, including education, electricity, water supply, and other community services. Participants discussed what has been achieved so far while stressing that many pressing concerns remain unresolved.
During the discussion, some residents raised concerns about public amenities. Malama Rabi’atu from Hurumin Da’u noted that her area continues to suffer from a lack of streetlights, leaving residents exposed to insecurity and accidents at night.
Similarly, Malam Usman from Kumbiya-Kumbiya called on authorities to prioritise fumigation exercises to curb the spread of malaria, which he said is aggravated by mosquito infestations in the community.
Residents from Bolari, Jekadafari, Pantami, and Kumbiya-Kumbiya commended his efforts and passed a vote of confidence in his leadership.
At the end of the meeting, participants urged continuous engagement between the lawmaker and the constituency. They emphasised that while some progress had been recorded, more work is required to address lingering issues in education, health, and infrastructure, and that regular forums of this nature will help keep both citizens and leaders accountable.
