Dangiwa Highlights Global Urban Progress as UN-HABITAT Executive Board Concludes 2024 Session

The UN-HABITAT Executive Board, chaired by Arc Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, concluded its 2024 second session with a renewed commitment to advancing sustainable urban development and addressing global challenges tied to urbanization.

In his closing address, Arc Dangiwa highlighted role of the Executive Board in shaping the strategies of UN-HABITAT and ensuring progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). “Your unwavering dedication and insightful contributions are pivotal to steering the New Urban Agenda and advancing progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” he remarked.

He emphasized the Board’s function as an intersessional mechanism of the UN-HABITAT Assembly, which plays a vital role in addressing urban challenges globally. Arc Dangiwa also extended the Board’s gratitude to the Executive Director of UN-HABITAT for her visionary leadership, which has been instrumental in driving the agency’s mission.

“Madam Executive Director, we deeply appreciate your invaluable contributions and visionary guidance. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for your dedication to the mission of UN-HABITAT,” he said.

The session saw high-level representatives and stakeholders from around the world converge to discuss climate-resilient urban planning, inclusive development, and strategies to accelerate the implementation of the New Urban Agenda.

As the session closed, Arc Dangiwa expressed optimism about the session’s outcomes, which he believes will position UN-HABITAT for even greater achievements. “The outcomes of this session will guide our organization to greater heights,” he noted, reaffirming the Board’s dedication to fostering innovative solutions and global cooperation in urban development.

With the formal declaration of the session’s closure, the organization now moves forward with its actionable insights, focusing on building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities for the future.
