Days After Supreme Court Verdict, Kano Emirs Stay Silent on Governor Abba’s Victory

Days after the Supreme Court affirmed Abba Kabir Yusuf as the duly elected Governor of Kano State, an evident silence has enveloped five prominent Emirs who are yet to extend congratulatory messages.

The Supreme Court’s ruling on January 12, 2024, brought a resolution to the legal battle, confirming Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) as the legitimate leader of Kano State.

However, the notable lack of congratulatory statements from five Emirs has raised eyebrows and fueled speculation.

The five Emirs – Kano, Rano, Karaye, Gaya, and Bichi – hold significant cultural and traditional influence within Kano, with their pronouncements carrying considerable weight.

Their silence, therefore, stands in stark contrast to the demonstrative congratulations offered by politicians, religious leaders, and ordinary citizens.

PRIME TIME NEWS gathered that Kano State has a rich history of blending traditional authority with contemporary politics, and the Emirs’ stance on recent developments is keenly observed.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, despite the silence from the Emirs, has continued with his official duties, signaling a focus on governance amid the prevailing silence.

Observers are keenly awaiting any potential statements from the Emirs, as their voices carry considerable weight in the cultural and political landscape of Kano State.

As the speculation lingers, it remains to be seen whether the Emirs will eventually break their silence and extend their congratulations to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, providing clarity on their stance in the post-Supreme Court verdict era.
