Dederi Unfolds Ambition Plan To Transform Kano NUJ

The Chairman, Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Suleiman Abdullahi Dederi, on Wednesday unveiled an ambitious plan to revitalize the Council.

Abdullahi Dederi who spoke in live Radio Talk show in Kano said his 5 point Agenda revolved around “capacity building, members welfare, ethics and discipline, transparency, and accountability, as well as the promotion of inclusiveness.”

Dederi revealed that he would collaborate with key stakeholders, such as veterans, practicing journalists, security agencies, civil society organizations, journalism institutions, and others, to achieve the set goal in a steady march to create a vibrant journalism community in Kano.

As a major step forward, the Council would soon
establish five committees to enhance the standards of the council, adding that these committees include: Education Committe that would tasked with capacity building, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.

According to Dederi, Ethics and Disciplinary Committee would also be mandated to address issues related to fake journalists that have persisted in the state and handle cases bothering on professional misconduct .

Dederi said Advisory Committe would comprised former chairmen and secretaries of the Council, stressing that they would served as a guide where necessary.

Other Committees include, Contact and Welfare Committee, that would be responsible for the well-being of members, as outlined in the Union’s constitution, while the Press Centre Committee would ensure the cleanliness of the press center environment and overseeing activities at the centre.

During a live radio program, Dederi and expressed gratitude to Kano journalists for entrusting him, and his team with their mandate.

The Chairman commended the legacies left by the immediate past executives of the Council, emphasizing that he and his team, as he promised to leverage on them to bring further development to Kano journalism.
