Driver arrested for stabbing LASTMA officer in Lagos
Police operatives from Iponri Police Station, yesterday, apprehended a driver operating a painted Volkswagen ‘T4’ commercial bus with the registration number LSR 966 YE in Lagos.
The arrest came after the driver stabbed an officer from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The incident unfolded when LASTMA officer Olajide Olukoga, also known as Bravo, leading an enforcement team, stopped the Volkswagen ‘T4’ bus for causing a traffic obstruction around the Costain roundabout in Lagos.
The bus had been picking up passengers on the main expressway, leading to severe traffic congestion and inconveniencing other road users.
Officer Olukoga explained that they had issued warnings to drivers to use designated bus stops for passenger pickup and drop-off.
Despite the warnings, the driver was non-compliant and attempted to escape when confronted. In a shocking turn of events, the driver resorted to violence, wielding a knife and stabbing Officer Olukoga.
Following the argument, the driver created a scene by stripping himself naked, causing chaos, but was ultimately apprehended by officers from the Iponri police station.
During the subsequent search of the bus, law enforcement officers discovered dangerous weapons, including a machete and another knife.
Officer Olukoga emphasized that the driver would face immediate prosecution, serving as a deterrent to others who might consider similar actions.
