DSS, Army thwart planned Boko Haram attack in Kano

A joint team of the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) has foiled a planned attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The operation was carried out in the early hours of Friday, November 3, 2023, and resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of weapons and explosives, including five AK-47 rifles, five AK-47 rifle magazines, one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), five RPG bombs, six hand grenades, five pairs of desert camouflage uniforms, 10 pairs of magazine pouches, and IED-making materials.

In a statement, the Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier-General Onyema Nwachukwu, said the operation was aimed at uncovering and apprehending suspected Boko Haram terrorists who were believed to be planning a major attack in Kano State.

Nwachukwu commended the interagency cooperation between the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, saying it is a testament to the strength of their collective resolve to defeat insurgency and other security challenges.

He also assured Nigerians of the Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, and urged them to be vigilant and collaborate with the security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
