El-Rasheed Intensifies Efforts to Restore Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road

The Member Representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdullahi El-Rasheed Bala, has intensified efforts to ensure the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road, describing it as a key economic artery vital to the prosperity of the North-East region.
The lawmaker, who recently embarked on an on-the-spot assessment of the highway, said the visit was part of his continued push to draw the attention of relevant federal authorities to the road’s deplorable state and the urgent need for comprehensive rehabilitation.
Hon. El-Rasheed lamented that the road, which links several communities across Gombe and Bauchi States, has become almost impassable, affecting the movement of goods and people, particularly farmers and traders who rely on it for their livelihoods.
He explained that restoring the road would not only improve transportation but also boost agricultural productivity, enhance trade, create employment, and open new opportunities for rural development.
“The Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road is a major lifeline for our people. Its rehabilitation will strengthen regional trade, reduce travel hardship, and drive sustainable economic growth across the North-East,” he said.
Hon. El-Rasheed also pledged to work closely with Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to ensure the project receives the attention it deserves from the Federal Government.
He revealed that he had already written to the North-East Development Commission (NEDC), appealing for urgent intervention to address the deteriorating condition of the road and ensure its reconstruction to modern standards.
Reaffirming his commitment to infrastructural development, the lawmaker said he would continue to champion policies and initiatives that improve road networks, stimulate commerce, and enhance the quality of life in Dukku, Nafada, and neighbouring communities.
It will be recalled that on November 7, 2023, Hon. El-Rasheed sponsored a motion on the Need to Rehabilitate the Gombe–Dukku–Darazo Road and Upgrade It to Truck “A” Status on the federal roads list a motion widely applauded by his colleagues as a significant step toward improving connectivity and economic integration in the North-East.
