EndBadGovernance Protests: Kano Govt Releases Minors To Parents

Kano State Government has on Thursday handed over the 76 minors involved in the recent EndBadGovernance protests to their respective parents.
The 76 minors who are indigents of the state had been detained in connection with the August protests, but were released to the State Government for medical evaluation and rehabilitation.
Governor Abba Yusuf released the minors to their parents at a ceremony held at the
Muhammadu Buhari Specialists Hospital,Giginyu,Kano,where they were rehabilitated.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Shehu Wada Sagagi, Yusuf commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the withdrawal of the charges against the minors.
He urged the minors to leverage on the State Government’s support to pursue their respective educational goals to enable them become self reliant.
He also advised them to be law abiding and shun any violent protests as the state government would not condone violent behaviour.
In his remarks,the OIC Chief of Field Office, Mr Michael Banda UNICEF Kano FO Occasion, commended Governor Yusuf for his remarkable leadership in prioritizing the rights and welfare of the minors.
“The swift, coordinated actions of the Governor’s team and the quality of service provided by all partners involved set a commendable example of child-centered governance UNICEF Support through the Ministry and Social Workers,”Banda said.
He said the UNICEF, in partnership with the state Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled Persons, had provided critical support throughout the process to ensure the well-being, safety, and reintegration of the children.
Such support he said, included the profiling-registration and identification during which all the minors were registered and identified at the facility with an initial assessment conducted to prioritize their risk levels, immediate needs, and overall well- being.
Banda also said that comprehensive profiles of the children were created using CPIMIS-nools Individual case identification, registration, and that the assessments had been completed.
