Executive Secretary Denies Selling 36 School Staff Quarters

By Abdullahi Yusuf

The Executive Secretary, Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board, Associate Professor Dahiru Sale Muhammad, has denied involvement of himself and the board in the alleged sale of 36 staff quarters of Government Technical College, Tiga, in Bebeji Local Government Area of the state.

Prof. Muhammad made the denial during an interview with newsmen in his office on Thursday.

Some members of the Parent Teachers Association(PTA) of the Government Technical College, Tiga, had accused the Executive Secretary and the board of an alleged unilateral sale of houses which were already under the owner-occupier arrangement.

He described the allegations as baseless, saying that there was no such transactions whatsoever.

“What exactly happened was that a former Commissioner of Education in the last administration was the one who sold houses belonging to the Science and Technical Schools Board, and not under the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“As at the time I assumed office there was nothing like selling of any houses, but I also know that there were some Staff of the Government Technical College, Tiga, who took the Principal of the School to Court for allegedly selling houses and the Court found him guilty and was adequately prosecuted”.

The Executive Secretary also denied unduly removing and transferring some Principals of schools on salary grade level 15 under the board and allegedly replaced them with his friends and cronies on level 12.

He explained that those removed from their positions were found to be unqualified as Principals of Science or Technical Colleges because they lacked the basic Qualifications of Science and Technical subjects

“You can imagine somebody having Arabic or Hausa qualification deployed as a principal of a Science or Technical College, what do you think would happen; indeed that was why all the equipments for practical lessons for Science and Technical subjects are not being put to use over the years

“So, we redeployed this set of Principals who don’t have the required qualifications and appointed qualified ones with Science and Technical background, and even at that, we have given them target upon which we want to see results,” Prof. Muhammad added.
