Falgore Urges Nigerians to “Kill Corruption” as Country Marks 65th Independence
The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, has called on Nigerians to confront corruption head-on as the country celebrates its 65th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, Falgore congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and urged citizens to take responsibility for redeeming the nation’s dignity by fighting corruption and harnessing its vast resources for development.
He noted that Nigeria’s journey since independence has been a mix of challenges and triumphs, but with strategic vision and planning, the country can still secure a brighter future.
“The day reminds us of the courage and foresight of our founding fathers, who built the foundation of a united and democratic nation. Sixty-five years later, we remain a nation of over 230 million people, mostly young and energetic — a unique asset that many countries do not have,” the Speaker said.
Falgore stressed the need for citizens to move beyond lamentations of missed opportunities and instead focus on salvaging the country’s fortunes.
“As a people, we must realize that we owe future generations, and indeed Nigeria, a duty to redeem our dignity by killing corruption and channeling our resources into development,” he added.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State House of Assembly to upholding its legislative and oversight responsibilities with zero tolerance for corruption, while working to improve the welfare of the people.
On behalf of the Assembly, Falgore extended felicitations to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the people of Kano State, and Nigerians across the country, wishing them a peaceful and prosperous Independence Day.
“May this anniversary inspire us all to rise above divisions and work together for a nation where justice, equity, and development prevail,” he said.
