From Umar Dankano, Yola
Senator Binos Dauda Yaroe of the Adamawa Southern Senatorial District has distributed food and cooking items to his constituents across the nine local government areas under the constituency in the state.
The items were shared through the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and Muslim councils across the nine local government areas, in recognition of the significance of both the Ramadan and Lenten periods.
Speaking during the distribution exercise held in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area yesterday, Senator Binos Yaroe said the gesture was aimed at supporting both Christians and Muslims in reducing the hardship bedeviling the people.
The senator, who was represented by his Campaign Director-General (DG), Mr. Katawan Boniface, urged beneficiaries to use the fasting season to pray for more blessings and peaceful coexistence.
Boniface disclosed that no fewer than 1,170 bags of rice, 900 bags of sugar, 450 cartons of spaghetti, and 144 cartons of vegetable oil, as well as other food items, were distributed.
He explained: “Each of the nine LGAs will get 130 bags of rice, making 1,170 in total. Each LGA will also receive 100 bags of sugar, making 900. We also have 16 gallons of vegetable oil for each LGA, making 144, and 50 cartons of spaghetti for each LGA. These items are meant for the less privileged in the society.”
According to him, the distribution became imperative due to the importance and significance of both the Ramadan and Lenten periods, reiterating the senator’s commitment and determination to always put smiles on the faces of his constituents.
Speaking shortly after receiving the items, the Assistant PRO of the Muslim Council in Mayo-Belwa LGA, Malam Abubakar Suleiman, appreciated the gesture and promised effective distribution to the target beneficiaries.
He described Senator Binos as a sincere and honest leader who wants the best for his constituents, noting that the food items would go a long way in supporting Muslims as the month of Ramadan unfolds.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Mayo-Belwa LGA, Bro. Chris Simon, described the gesture as timely as Christians mark the Lenten period. He thanked the senator for the kind support.
He added that the Christian body would ensure the items reach the less privileged in society, while praying for God Almighty to grant the senator the desires of his heart.
On his part, the Chairman of People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs), Malam Abubakar Mohammed Bolto, who could not hide his joy, expressed gratitude to Senator Binos for considering the physically challenged among the major beneficiaries of the distribution.
He appealed to the senator to continue supporting them during festive periods and assured that the food items would be shared among members of the group, both Christians and Muslims alike.
