Fatal Crash Claims 5 Lives on Kano-Zaria Road
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano State Command wishes to inform the general public about a tragic road traffic crash that occurred in the early hours of today, 24th September 2024, along the Zaria-Kano road at Karfi Village by the Trailer Park.
Public Relations Officer, FRSC Kano, CRC Abdullahi Labaran disclosed this in a statement issued to newsmen on Tuesday.
According to Labaran, the crash, reported by the Kura Local Government Police Division, involved two vehicles: a trailer and a Toyota Hummer Bus with registration number 14B101KN belonging to Kanoline.
Adding that, the accident which took place at approximately 1:15 p.m, involved a total of fifteen individuals.
“Sadly, five lives were lost, and ten people sustained varying degrees of injuries. The victims were identified as members of the Nigeria Police Force returning from a special assignment in Edo State, where they had been deployed for election monitoring” the Statement revealed.
He explained that preliminary investigations by the FRSC have revealed that the crash was caused by excessive speeding, which led the driver of the Hummer bus to lose control and collide with a parked trailer.
The Sector Commander, ACM Ahmed Tijjani Mohammed, extends his heartfelt condolences to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, the Nigeria Police Force, and the families of the victims. He also wishes the injured a speedy recovery.
In light of this unfortunate incident, the Sector Commander once again warns drivers about the dangers of excessive speeding, overloading, and other traffic infractions.
He stressed the need for all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to prevent further loss of lives on our roads.
