Federal University Dutsin-Ma Awards Honorary Doctorate to Hon. Abubakar Bichi
Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, Member of the House of Representatives for Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, was awarded an honorary doctorate degree during the 9th convocation ceremony at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma on Saturday.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Armayau Hamisu announced that Hon. Abubakar was honored with a Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contributions to the advancement of education in Nigeria.
Prof. Hamisu highlighted Hon. Abubakar’s recent fully funded sponsorship program, which sent 21 postgraduate students to study engineering in Malaysia. He also praised the representative’s extensive support for over 5,000 students from Bichi, providing scholarships for their studies at various universities and colleges across Nigeria.
Additionally, Prof. Hamisu acknowledged Hon. Abubakar’s role in bringing several infrastructure projects to the university. “Through his oversight function, Hon. Abubakar has facilitated funds for the construction of three faculty buildings, a library, a female hostel, and an auditorium at the university. This has significantly enhanced academic activities and resources on campus,” he stated.
In recognition of these efforts, the university named a newly completed 200-capacity auditorium in Hon. Abubakar’s honor. After commissioning the facility, Hon. Abubakar expressed his gratitude to the institution, pledging his continued support for Nigerian academic institutions and their global competitiveness.
He urged Nigerian universities to explore alternative funding models, as seen in developed countries, to bolster their capabilities. “I am committed to continuing the work that earned me this recognition and enhancing it further,” he stated, calling on his colleagues and the university community to support these efforts.
Hon. Abubakar was accompanied at the event by fellow House members, family, friends, and well-wishers from across the country.
