Fedpoly Mubi Union Refutes Allegations of Corruption, Maladministration Against Governing Council
By Umar Dankano, Yola
The Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, has dismissed allegations of maladministration and financial misconduct leveled against the Chairman of the institution’s Governing Council by a group identifying themselves as “Mubi Concerned Citizens.”
Addressing a press conference in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, over the weekend, JAC Chairman Comrade Tpl. Kadala Solomon Bandi described the allegations as baseless and lacking substance, labeling the petitioners as a “faceless group.”
Flanked by other JAC executives, Comrade Bandi expressed dismay over the accusations, stating that the Polytechnic community, including critical stakeholders like the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnics (SSANIP), and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), has been working harmoniously with the 11th Governing Council to advance the institution’s goals.
He dismissed the petition as a product of imagination, urging stakeholders and the public to disregard it, saying it “belongs in the trash can” due to its lack of credibility and specificity.
Responding to claims that the Governing Council has plunged the Polytechnic into financial crisis, Comrade Bandi acknowledged financial challenges but clarified that the issues predate the current Council. He noted that for several years, departments have operated without adequate funding for teaching aids and other essentials.
He urged the petitioners to abandon what he described as “primordial sentiments, unquenchable greed, and a sense of entitlement” and instead support the reforms introduced by the Governing Council, led by Dr. Babagana Ajimi, to foster institutional development.
Bandi also called on the Polytechnic Visitor, the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund, the Federal Ministry of Education, and other stakeholders to sanction what he referred to as “fake whistleblowers” to deter future attempts to undermine the institution.
“We can boldly state that the Governing Council has never overstepped its bounds but has always operated within the ambits of the law establishing it,” Bandi affirmed.
It should be recalled that the group, Mubi Concerned Citizens, recently submitted a petition to the National Assembly through the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund. Dated November 29, 2024, the petition, signed by Jacob Jambula as Chairman and Hajiya Fatimatu Labaran as Secretary, accused the Council Chairman, Dr. Babagana Ajimi, of financial misconduct, maladministration, and high-handedness. The group called for an urgent investigation by the Senate, the Federal Ministry of Education, and the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), claiming that these issues threaten the integrity, financial stability, and academic standing of the institution.
