The federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, is seeking collaboration with state governments to implement comprehensive education reforms aimed at addressing the declining standards of the sector and tackling the national scourge of out-of-school children.

Professor Tahir Mamman, Minister of Education, announced this development during a courtesy call on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State yesterday (Thursday). He emphasized that the new reforms will focus on improving the quality of education, particularly at the basic level.

Responding to President Tinubu’s directive, Professor Mamman stressed the importance of prioritizing out-of-school children. He vowed to work with state governments to develop effective strategies to address this critical issue.

The Minister assured Governor Fintiri that his team is committed to changing the narrative in the education sector. He called for the collaboration of state governments in implementing these crucial reforms.

Professor Mamman also revealed the government’s efforts to develop workable strategies to curb unnecessary strikes in tertiary institutions. This initiative aims to ensure uninterrupted academic calendars and improve the learning experience for students.

Governor Fintiri expressed his appreciation to President Tinubu for appointing Professor Mamman, an “illustrious son of Adamawa,” as the Minister of Education. He commended the Minister’s timely reforms and pledged the state’s unwavering support.

Governor Fintiri lauded Professor Mamman’s achievements, including the removal of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) from the Integrated Payrol and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and the payment of withheld salary arrears for lecturers.

He also highlighted the state government’s success in addressing the issue of out-of-school children and the Almajiri syndrome.

Professor Mamman also paid a courtesy call on the Lamido of Adamawa, HRH Barkido Aliyu Mustapha, at his palace. He was received by Alhaji Mustapha Aminu, Galadima Adamawa, and other members of the emirate council.
