The Federal Government College Kano Old Students Association (FGCKOSA) has petitioned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over an alleged plan to concession parts of the school’s land under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, describing the process as lacking transparency and excluding key stakeholders.
PRIME TIME NEWS reports that the Federal Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Pluck Global Company Ltd., is said to have entered into an agreement to fence and develop portions of the school land, with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for April 6, 2026, within the college premises.

In a formal complaint, jointly signed by its global president, Shoyinka Shodunke, alongside notable members including Sheikh Bashir Umar Aliyu, Sheikh Rabiu Ishyaku Rabiu Suleiman Adamu (Galadiman Kazure), Nasser Ahmed Dan Darman Lokoja and Abdul Samad Rabiu, the association alleged that the move amounts to an attempt to take over critical parts of the school, including sports fields and other facilities.
FGCKOSA said it was neither consulted nor informed about the project, despite being a recognized stakeholder, noting that the concession process was not publicly advertised in line with established PPP guidelines.
The association disclosed that its representatives visited the Federal Ministry of Education on March 30, 2026, to seek clarification but were later informed that the deal had already been concluded.
It further expressed concern that the proposed development, reportedly involving commercial real estate near the school, could disrupt the academic environment and undermine the institution’s long-term interests.
Shodunke maintained that the alumni body, which has invested billions of naira in the school’s development over the past three decades, would strongly resist any attempt to reduce the institution’s land size.
He added that the association had recently established a foundation aimed at supporting infrastructural and academic development, with plans to raise about ₦5 billion for the initiative.
The group called on President Tinubu to immediately halt the project and suspend the land-swap deal pending proper consultation with stakeholders.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Education, the Minister of State for Education, as well as agencies including the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, as FGCKOSA insisted on urgent intervention to safeguard the integrity and future of the institution.
According to an invitation to the project’s commissioning obtained by Prime Time News, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, is expected as the special guest of honour, while both Hon. Abduljabbar M. Umar and Mohammed Jamu Yusuf will serve as guest speakers.
