Fityanul Islam of Nigeria Opposes Planned 10-Day Protest

Fityanul Islam of Nigeria has announced its opposition to the planned nationwide protests against bad governance, scheduled to take place from 1st to 10th August 2024.

The organization, through its leadership, has expressed concerns that such mass actions could lead to widespread chaos and disruption, citing the traumatic effects of the End-SARS protests as a cautionary example.

In an official statement released today, Sheikh (Dr.) Muhammad Arabi AbulFathi, President of Fityanul Islam of Nigeria, emphasized the group’s position. “While we are committed to the welfare of our people, we believe these protests will not bring any benefit to the nation. They are likely to be infiltrated and manipulated by unpatriotic elements, potentially leading to a total breakdown of law and order,” he said.

The statement further urged Muslims across Nigeria to refrain from participating in the protests. Instead, Fityanul Islam of Nigeria called for a period of intensive fasting and prayers, seeking divine intervention in mosques nationwide. “Let us recite the Glorious Qur’an a million times within the ten days and engage in countless Istighfar (seeking Allah’s forgiveness). Prayer has been the time-tested solution to our individual and societal challenges from pre-colonial times to the present,” the statement read.

The organization also rejected claims that the current challenges facing Nigeria are due to the Muslim-Muslim ticket on which the governing party was elected. “Previous administrations, regardless of their religious compositions, have also faced significant challenges. The notion that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is responsible for today’s problems is unfounded,” stated Dr. AbulFathi.

Drawing comparisons with the recent protests in Kenya, Fityanul Islam of Nigeria cautioned Nigerians against being misled by similar movements. “Is the Kenyan government also on a Muslim-Muslim ticket? Nigerian youth must resist every attempt to manipulate their emotions using the current hardship as a pretext to destroy our country,” the statement warned.

The organization called on the government to strategically review policies that are causing significant hardship for Nigerians. “Our Almighty Creator and Sustainer, Allah, never sleeps, nor does He abandon the sincere supplications of His servants. We pray for Allah’s merciful intervention in our nation’s challenges,” concluded Dr. AbulFathi.

The statement was co-signed by Ustaz Sani Ibn Salihu, Director General of Media & Publicity for Fityanul Islam of Nigeria, who reiterated the call for peaceful and prayerful reflection instead of mass protests.
