From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has donated 1,250 cartons of cholera prevention and hygiene kits to support flood victims in Jigawa State.
The items were distributed on Wednesday at several Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps, including Tsakuwawa village in Miga Local Government Area.
Malam Kamaladdin Ahmad, Deputy Director of Planning at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), commended UNICEF for its generous support.
He highlighted that the cholera prevention kits are designated for flood victims residing in the IDP camps. “UNICEF has provided these kits to aid Jigawa state in preventing the spread of cholera among flood-affected individuals,” he stated.
The distribution targets only those living in IDP camps, excluding victims who have returned to their homes or are residing with relatives.
According to Ahmad, the 750 cholera prevention kits and 500 hygiene kits, which include soap, sanitary pads, water treatment materials, and other hygiene essentials, will be distributed across the 18 LGAs housing IDPs. So far, seven LGAs, including Auyo, Buji, and Miga, have received the supplies.
