FMAN Interventions Lead to Bumper Harvest for Jigawa Wheat Farmers

Following interventions from the Flour Milling Association of Nigeria (FMAN), wheat farmers in Jigawa state anticipate achieving the highest harvest in the state’s history.

Alhaji Mujtaba Bayi, Chairman of the Wheat Farmers Association in Jigawa, revealed this during the Wheat Farmers Green Field Day held on Wednesday in Ringim local government area.

Bayi commended FMAN’s interventions for contributing to food security and reducing youth unemployment, acknowledging the support from the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi.

Last year, 3,000 wheat farmers benefited, and this year, with increased support from the state administration, around 8,000 wheat farmers in Jigawa benefited from FMAN interventions.

Alhaji Mujtaba assured a bumper wheat harvest, attributing the success to the collaboration with grassroots farmers and the support received from FMAN. The interventions included improved and certified wheat seeds, fertilizers, agro-chemicals, and advice from extension workers.

Dr. Aliyu Samaila, Head of Value Chain Development at FMAN, highlighted the expansion of interventions in partnership with the Jigawa state government, covering more hectares for increased wheat production in seven states.

Governor Malam Umar Namadi, represented by his Special Adviser on Cluster Farming, Alhaji Idris Mohammad Danzomo, reiterated the government’s commitment to improving the lives of Jigawa citizens through agriculture.

The governor commended FMAN’s partnership and encouraged others to emulate for enhanced food security and job opportunities for youths.

Female wheat farmer, Malama Nafisa Alhassan, expressed gratitude for FMAN’s interventions, noting that they encourage her efforts to increase production.

Another farmer, Malam Dalladi Sani, from Ringim local government, credited FMAN’s interventions for a record wheat harvest, providing job opportunities for unemployed youths.
