Free legal aid day : Justice sector reform recieves 225 complains in 3 months in Jigawa

The Jigawa state Justice sector and law reform commission said it received no fewer than 225 complains from citizens mostly less privilege people within three months of January to March 2024.

This was announced by the executive secretary Jigawa state Justice sector and law Reform commission Barrister Aisha Sulaiman Jahun while delivering her remarks at the free legal aid day organised by the commission in partnership with Ministry of Justice and the district head of Dutse.

Barrister Aisha explained that, the free legal aid include legal information, advices and legal support for free across the state.

According to her, the purposes is to raise awareness on free legal services given to the people by the commission for their complains around divorce, marriage, maintainance and any other types of maltreatment.

She added that, the commission recieved complains through their centres located in ten local government “but now we’re trying to expand on how people will be able to bring their complains.

” This year we also introduce hotlines were people can call for complains, another avenue is we created outreach in various Community’s law centres in ten local government were our staffs go to and create awareness on our work and other commission services, including our radio programs.

“I want use this medium to inform the general public that as result of this massive awareness campaigns, from January to March 2024 we will be able to register 225 cases, compared with previous years where registered only 116 in 2022”, Barrister Aisha said.

She added that, through this activity and other activities particularly the outreach Radio programs, will actually open people’s minds and make the commission’s activities more known for people to bring their complains.

The executive secretary then, urged the general public cooperate with commission by bringing their complains for support and advice or even linking them with right authorities to deal with the complains.
