Fresh boat mishap claim 2 lives as 3 were rescued in Adamawa

A fresh boat mishap has claimed the life of a nursing mother and her baby as three people were rescued alive in Gamadio village of Numan local government area in Adamawa state.

Reports had it that the mishap occurred on Monday morning when five passengers were onboard traveling to Numan through river Gamadio then suddenly the ill-fated boat capsized and sunk in to the river.

Confirming the development while receiving the state government’s delegation led by the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta on yesterday, Chairman of the local government area,Hon. Christopher Sofore said report reaching his council revealed that five people were on a voyage when the boat capsized.

Sofore said, three persons were rescued while the two bodies of the nursing mother and her daughter were yet to be recovered explaining that his local council and National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) are mapping out way to recover the bodies involving local divers.

Deputy Governor, professor Farauta while commiserating with the people of Gamadio and Numan local government over the incident advised on the usage  of live jackets, when people patronizes boat always.

“LGAs chairmen should procured adequate life jackets and enforce it usage on the people.

“Live jackets should be made available, according to number of commuters Farauta appealed.

Contacted on the update of the mishap, Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency, ADSEMA. Dr.Aminu Mohammed Sulaiman said a team of officials from NEMA, ADSEMA, Police Marine and Fire Service with local divers have been deployed to continue searching for the bodies of the feared dead nursing mother and her daughter.

Suleiman also called on local government administrators to ensure life saving jackets are always before engaging in to water ways transportations or journeys.

The incident occurred when the deceased were said to be crossing river Gamadio to Numan LGA on Monday in the morning.
