Gbajabiamila, Barau, Governor Abba, Others Join Shettima in Maiduguri for Condolences

Governors Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano, Uba Sani of Kaduna State, Mai Mala Buni of Yobe, Mohammed Bago of Niger, Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin on Saturday led high-powered delegations to Maiduguri to condole with Vice President Kashim Shettima over the death of his stepmother, Hajja Hauwa Kormi.

Hajja Kormi died on Thursday and was buried in Maiduguri in accordance with Islamic rites amidst prayers from family and friends.

The Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau Jibrin, led a strong delegation from the National Assembly comprising the former Senate President Ahmed Lawan, current and former lawmakers.

Also in Maiduguri to condole with the Vice President were the National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha, former Governors of Imo and Adamawa State, Sen. Rochas Okorocha and Bala James Ngilari respectively, among others.

From the Presidency, the Chief of Staff to the President, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila led the delegation comprising Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, among others.

In his remarks, Ganduje described the death of Hajja Hauwa Kormi, as a great loss to the country.

He said the loss of Kormi was a painful loss for the country, adding that the deceased would be remembered for her service to the community and beyond.

Also, Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau commiserated with the Vice President and the people of Borno over the loss.

Barau, who came on behalf of the Senators, said that the deceased was a woman of character who impacted positively on the lives of her people.

“We pray that may Allah give the Vice-President, the people of Borno and all Nigerians the fortitude to bear the loss of our mother,” Barau said.

Responding, Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno thanked all those who have come from far and near to condole with the Vice President over the death of his step mother.

“I want to extend our appreciations to those that come purposely to commiserate with us over the demised of our mother.

“May Almighty Allah forgive and grant her Al-Jannah Firdaus.”

Other dignitaries that paid condolence visit to the Vice President include Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, the CEO of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, Prince Arthur Eze, business magnate Alh. Dahiru Mangal, Amb. Babagana Kingibe, the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Emma Eneukwu, Rep. Hassan Nalaraba, Rep. Mukhtar Betara among others.
