GOCOP Set to Launch Book on Online Journalism Next Month
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) has announced plans to publicly present its new book titled ‘’Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspectives on Online Publishing.”
The unveiling of the book is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Abuja Continental Hotel.
According to a statement by GOCOP’s Publicity Secretary, Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, the event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to mark a significant milestone in Nigeria’s media and publishing landscape.
The statement quoted GOCOP President, Ms. Maureen Chigbo, as saying that the event will also feature a fundraiser for the N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre project.
According to reports, that the centre, Chigbo noted, will house a secretariat, a modern library, and multipurpose event halls, among other facilities.
Describing the book, Chigbo said it chronicles the evolution of Nigeria’s media landscape and the growing influence of online publishing in shaping public discourse, promoting transparency, and supporting national development.
She described it as “a testament to the resilience and innovation of Nigerian media practitioners in the digital age.”
The event is expected to draw stakeholders from government, media, the private sector, academia, and civil society to reflect on the challenges and opportunities in online journalism and its role in nation-building.
Founded to promote ethical standards in journalism, GOCOP comprises 120 members, including seasoned editors and senior journalists who transitioned from traditional media to online platforms.
The book also explores the historical development of online journalism in Nigeria and contributes to ongoing discussions on press freedom, civil liberties, and democracy.
